5 TRENDS I'M ADDING TO MY CLOSET THIS SEASON

This month has been filled with styling sessions with clients. As a personal stylist, I absolutely love working with clients on developing their wardrobe and to decide what trends to add to their closets. I started out the New Year by cleaning my own closet, as well as quite a few client’s closets. If you haven’t gone through your own closet yet the start of a New Year is the perfect time to do this. Going through our existing wardrobes is the perfect way to really determine what we own and any key pieces we may be missing. Since I’ve been doing so many closet editing and shopping for clients, I thought it was the perfect time to share a few trends every woman needs in her wardrobe this season AND share how to wear them. BUT before you add these pieces to your wardrobe make sure you spend some time going through your current selection and try to work with what you have before adding anything new – you’d be surprised at the hidden gems you find as you edit your closet space.

High Waisted Midi Skirt

Let me say, I can’t get enough of a great skirt. There’s something about a great skirt that’s just perfect to give that girl boss vibe to your look, and they’re so easy to wear. Mini skirts have been a trend for a while, but this season it’s all about the midi skirt length. Midi length skirts are a great alternative to mini skirts and give a bit of an updated feel. Not to mention, midi length is great to wear for work! The key to choosing a great midi skirt is to opt for a high waisted fit. High waisted skirts tend to be much more figure flattering because they highlight the smallest part of our waist – what’s not to love about that. Some women tend to feel hesitant to wearing skirts in casual wear, but they’re super versatile and can be worn casually or more dressed up. Pair midi skirt with sneakers and graphic tee for super easy, casual look. Want to dress it up? Add your favorite heels and blazer for a work ready outfit.

Color of The Year

Every year, Pantone announces a ‘color of the year.’ This color tends to show up in trends and fashion everywhere throughout the year. 2018’s color of the year is ‘Ultra Violet.’ I absolutely adore this year’s color of the year! One of my favorite ways to add colors, like ultra violet, into my wardrobe (or client’s wardrobes) is by adding a few versatile pieces in the color. This gorgeous purple color is stunning with neutral colors, too. Another easy way to embrace ultra violet into your wardrobe is with accessories! Accessories are such a great way to add a pop of color to any look. Of course, if you’re a lipstick girl like I am it’s all about purple lipstick!

High Waisted Trousers

Yes, it’s all about high waisted this year! Trousers are a must for every woman’s wardrobe, especially my working mama’s out there. The past couple of years have been all about slim and skinny fit trousers, and those fits are always super chic but this season you definitely want to add some high waisted styles to your wardrobe. Similar to midi skirts, high waisted trousers are super figure flattering and give an updated look to your style. I suggest adding white and/or black high waisted trousers to your wardrobe, both colors will give you a ton of versatility.

New Pumps

Shoes are a total weakness of mine. Who doesn’t love a great pair of shoes though?! Ok so I’ll admit I think a great pair of shoes is an essential every season. However, this season I can’t get enough of new pumps for my clients. Pumps are having a major style moment right now. Even though they’re trending pumps are also classic and modern. Essentially…you can wear pumps ALL the time. If you need to update your shoe collection, I suggest adding white or nude pumps this year. Both colors are great neutrals and will add a gorgeous touch to any look you pair them with.

Maxi Skirt

Skirts are go-to pieces in my personal wardrobe, they’re just so easy to wear! I mentioned midi skirts and another staple I’m going to be adding to my wardrobe (and you may want to, too) are maxi skirts. Similar to midi skirts, maxi options are such a fun update to the mini skirts we’ve seen the past couple of years. Most women feel like maxi skirts are limited to the summer and resort wear but they can be worn all year long, for so many different occasions.
