Most of you probably know I’m a very positive person. I love to laugh and make other people happy, and even on the toughest days—like say, when my kids are testing my patience or a package doesn’t arrive on time (sound familiar to anyone else?)—I try to remember to focus on the good. I think this is one of the reasons I love fashion so much. Even with a constant barrage of scary stories in the news and all the stresses of daily life, putting on a fun outfit can instantly boost my mood and make me feel like I can handle anything! That’s why I was beyond excited to do a style shoot with Michael Kors on Michigan Ave. Michael infuses all his designs with optimism, and his aim with this collection was specifically to bring joy!
Surf’s Up
Take a borrowed from the boys surf tee, and pair it with a cashmere long-sleeved sweater, a silk chiffon skirt, and a bright hat for instant chic, just add water. Adding a leather moto jacket is another great option for an urban luxe look around the city. I’m really into mixing high and low when I style myself or my clients, and that’s what Michael Kors is all about!
The Case for Lace
It was love at first sight between me and this lace jumpsuit. And based on Instagram comments, for lots of you, too! This is such a special piece that combines a 70s silhouette with a French lace tradition called Guipure that goes back hundreds of years. Each beautiful flower has been handstitched and then crocheted on top of the lace for an incredible 3D effect. True, such craftsmanship is not cheap, but this is meant to be a forever piece. And I would LOVE to see someone wear this at their wedding!
Glam on the Go
If you want to get out of a yoga pants rut, take notes from this look. Since time is the biggest luxury, why not invest in clothes that can take you from school drop-off all the way through dinner? A cashmere hoodie is a MUST for all seasons. Not only does it feel like being wrapped in a hug, but it can also be worn with a dress and heels, instead of a blazer, or over a swimsuit.
Polka Dots
Michael Kors and I share a love of mixing patterns within the same color story for outfits that are sophisticated without being too serious. The contrast of stripes and polka dots and a crisp blazer with a flirty skirt makes this pretty and powerful for the office.
Sporty Spice
This luxe leather tracksuit is everything! I love a head-to-toe athleisure look with white heels, but I would also wear the jacket as an alternative to a moto or blazer, and the bottoms with a cashmere sweater for traveling.
White Hot
Focusing on the shoes I just mentioned for a moment—I am the queen of white pumps and this is one accessory I recommend to everyone! They just make an outfit pop, whether you’re in all black or bright colors. Michael Kors heels are extremely comfortable and at an attainable price for the quality. I also have my eye on the pair in the perfect shade of Yves Klein blue.
Details, Details
I have to give a shout-out to two of my favorite parts of this collection: the graphic floral prints created by artist Christina Zimpel and the metallic handcrafted brocades. I felt very special wearing these clothes and accessories, knowing that each piece had so much talent behind it!
The Other MK
If you’ve seen her Netflix series or read her book, you know Marie Kondo is all about getting rid of things that don’t spark joy. This has always been my approach to adding to my closet, even more so now that I’ve watched the show. Whenever I’m shopping, I ask myself: Will it make me happy to put this on? And the answer at Michael Kors is a resounding YES.
